Today, the Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting between Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev and the head of the OSCE Mission Claus Neukirch.

The interlocutors focused on Moldova’s blocking of deliveries of vital goods to Pridnestrovie. First of all, medical products, fertilizers and foodstuffs were referred to. Vitaly Ignatiev negatively assessed today’s statement by the Moldovan government as a self-exposure of the use of the blockade tools for the purpose of political pressure on Pridnestrovie.

We have taken note of the statement by the Moldovan government that was made with the explicit purpose of justifying the blockade and restrictive measures used against Pridnestrovie, but has turned into an act of self-disclosure.

On April 20, an online discussion of expert (working) groups on transport and road infrastructure development was held. Proposals to convene this meeting were repeatedly voiced by the Pridnestrovian side since last December (the previous one took place on September 24, 2021), but were consistently ignored by the Moldovan side.

On April 18, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a request to the head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Janis Mazeiks, concerning the critical situation around Pridnestrovie’s key enterprise JSC Moldova Steel Works.

The Republic of Moldova continues to block the operation of the plant, in particular, by preventing the import of raw materials and the export of finished products both from the territory of Moldova and in transit through it. Restrictions by the Republic of Moldova may bring severe socio-economic consequences.

Because of the destructive actions of the Moldovan side, medicines needed by the population and medical institutions of Pridnestrovie have been detained for several weeks at the Moldova-Romania border and customs terminals of the Republic of Moldova. In addition to the already withheld cargoes, Moldova refuses to issue permits allowing new consignments of medical supplies to be imported. As a result, a significant part of shipments was stopped and in-demand medicines are in short supply.

The Foreign Ministry states that Moldova persistently applies administrative and bureaucratic barriers and restrictions against Pridnestrovian importers.

Thus, on April 6 this year, at a meeting of political representative of Pridnestrovie and Moldova, involving Pridnestrovian pharmaceutical companies, the Moldovan side made a public promise, no later than April 11, to let through one of the importing company's goods that had been at Moldovan customs post in Bulboaca since March 27 and April 1  . However, this promise has not been fulfilled.
