Yesterday at the Glory Memorial in Tiraspol an event commemorating the beginning of the Patriotic War in Abkhazia was held. On August 14, 1992 Georgian troops invaded the republic.

Flower laying ceremony was held in memory of the victims. It was attended by representatives of state authorities, public organizations and residents of the republic. PMR Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandr Stetsiuk represented the Foreign Ministry.

“Sadly, we share not only a common fate. The tragic pages of history, common history, when the collapse of the Soviet Union brought tragic events in Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Pridnestrovie, unite us,” the diplomat said.

Speaking about the Pridnestrovian-Abkhazian contacts, Alexandr Stetsiuk stated the following:

“Friends need to be together in times of both trouble and happiness. That’s why we’re in a united effort to achieve broad international recognition, we condole together, we sympathize, we have compassion, we remember, including the tragic events.”
