Today, Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev met with Yuri Klimenko, Ukraine’s Special Representative in the Moldova-Pridnestrovie settlement process. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Moldova Mark Shevchenko and Deputy Foreign Minister of Pridnestrovie Alexandr Stetsiuk also participated in the working dialogue. This meeting was the first contact with Ukraine’s new representative in the 5+2 format.
A substantive discussion focused on the current state of the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova, as well as on the working prospects within the “Permanent Conference...”.
The diplomats separately addressed the situation with the Ukrainian refugees in Pridnestrovie and cooperation of the Pridnestrovian side with international organizations in this field. In that context, the Minister stressed the need for fully functional consular services on the territory of Pridnestrovie for Ukrainian citizens.
During the dialogue, Vitaly Ignatiev reiterated the peaceful attitude of the Pridnestrovian state and the need to resolve all the issues of the Moldova-Pridnestrovie settlement at the negotiating table, through political and diplomatic means only.
Closing the meeting, the interlocutors agreed to maintain working cooperation on a full range of matters of mutual interest.
