On the Meeting of Expert (Working) Groups on Education Issues from Pridnestrovie and Moldova

12/16/25

On December 9, the sixth meeting of the year between specialists from Pridnestrovie and Moldova on education issues was held via videoconference.

This issue is of paramount importance for Pridnestrovie, as it is directly related to ensuring and protecting the rights, interests, and opportunities of pupils, students, and graduates of educational institutions in the PMR, as well as to creating conditions for their successful education and further professional development.

During the meeting, the Pridnestrovian side, in particular, called for the elimination of discriminatory actions against Pridnestrovian students in Moldova, manifested in illegal requirements to retake secondary education courses when applying to Moldovan universities, Chisinau’s attempts to prevent Pridnestrovians from studying at foreign universities, the imposition of Moldovan duplicates of educational documents, and the requirement to undergo virtually impossible legalization procedures.

Along with this, the PMR representatives demanded that the Moldovan side cease aggressive pressure on Pridnestrovian youth, students, as well as employees and administration of the Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University when passing through border control at Chisinau airport.

A separate topic of discussion was the implementation of the agreement on the apostille of diplomas, namely the inclusion of additional higher and secondary vocational education institutions of Pridnestrovie in the existing mechanism.

During the discussion, experts raised the issue of Moldova’s protracted failure to fulfill its obligations to submit documentation on the parameters and stages of technical expertise of the unfinished building in Rybnitsa at 14 Gagarin Street.

Despite the purely humanitarian nature of the issues discussed by the experts, the Moldovan side is not showing the necessary openness to finding practical solutions and is refusing to engage in dialogue on a number of pressing issues.
