Pridnestrovie fears a possible escalation of tensions on the border with Ukraine. As reported by TASS news agency, that was said on Monday by Head of the Foreign Ministry of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (the PMR) Nina Shtanski.
According to Shtanski, the Pridnestrovian inhabitants’ fears are due to the fact that Kiev is concentrating the military forces on the border, and thereby exacerbates social and political situation in the republic.
“Tent camps are set up on the Pridnestrovian border where servicemen, weapons are placed. Imagine what anxiety it causes in Pridnestrovie,” said Nina Shtanski.
Also the Head of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry noted that the progress in talks with Ukraine is prevented by tightening of the economic blockade of the region. “The recent blockade actions of Ukraine led to the fact that, compared with May last year, the export volume decreased by more than 20 per cent - said Shtanski. – These are huge losses for the country. Over the last month we have received revenue by 45 percent less. That affects every Pridnestrovian”.
We remind that on May 21 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine denounced the agreement with Russia on the transit of Russian troops and cargo to Pridnestrovie through Ukrainian territory.
