Pridnestrovian and Moldovan experts in the field of education met in the office of the OSCE Mission in Kishinev at the initiative of the Pridnestrovian side today, on April 20, 2016.
It should be reminded that the Pridnestrovian side insisted on holding a meeting of expert (working) groups on education since August 2015, but the Moldovan side repeatedly postponed the organization of the meeting for the internal political reasons that led to a significant slowdown in the process of elaboration of decisions in that area.
During the meeting subject matter experts discussed a broad agenda that included eight previously agreed work issues drawn up from among the problematic aspects which are the most relevant for each of the parties.
In particular, it was agreed to hold the next stage of control activities in Romanian-language non-state educational institutions operating in Pridnestrovie for their readiness to organize educational process. In the context of the decision the Pridnestrovian side handed a generic list of violations identified by relevant supervisory authorities of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, which must be corrected prior to the planned control activities.
In the context of discussions on the existing barriers which prevent Pridnestrovian citizens to continue their studies in foreign universities, the head of the Pridnestrovian expert group expressed deep concern about the Moldovan side’s unreadiness to conduct a substantive dialogue on the matter. The attention of mediators and observers participating in the meeting was drawn to the fact that Moldovan representatives deliberately prolong the implementation of European experts’ recommendations, who as early as in 2014 worked on the mechanism for settling existing problems at the request of the parties.
