Today head of the Foreign Ministry of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev received a delegation of the Russian Federation headed by Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Gubarev. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Director of the Second Department of the CIS of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vitaly Tryapitsyn, Advisor to the Foreign Minister of the RF on peacekeeping missions Marat Kulakhmetov and Co-Chairman of the Joint Control Commission from Russia Yevgeny Vereshchaga.

Welcoming the guests, Vitaly Ignatiev highly appreciated the positive dynamics of bilateral contacts with the Russian Federation, noting that the interaction is regular and systematic. “This demonstrates the readiness of the Russian side to work actively in the process of settlement of the Moldo-Pridnestrovian relations, shows the focus on the concrete result in solving the existing problems,” the diplomat stressed.

During the meeting the sides discussed prospects for intensifying cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Moldova at all levels of the negotiation process, including meetings of political representatives in the “1+1” format. In this context, Sergey Gubarev told about the readiness declared by the Moldovan side to restore full-fledged dialogue with Pridnestrovie.

“Within the framework of the talks held by me the political representative from the Republic of Moldova Gheorghe Balan expressed the firm intention to re-establish contacts in the “1+1” format in the near future. The continuation of the regular meetings of the expert groups is no less important, the issue on reappointment of leaders of these groups from the Moldovan side is being completed now, and hopefully that their work will move to the systemic mainstream,” said the Ambassador.

They also discussed possible ways to solve the most pressing problems in the relations of Pridnestrovie and Moldova, in particular in the area of rail freight communication, road transport, as well as the politically motivated prosecution of the citizens of Pridnestrovie. Special attention was paid to the decision of Moldova and Ukraine on the establishment of joint customs and border control on the Pridnestrovian border checkpoint “Kuchurgan”. Vitaly Ignatiev expressed the view that these plans implemented unilaterally outside the framework of the existing negotiation mechanism carry a significant destructive potential, threaten with large losses for the Pridnestrovian economic agents, will also impact in the most negative way on the welfare of Pridnestrovians. Resolution of this extremely acute problem, as noted at the meeting, should be a priority in the dialogue between Pridnestrovie in Moldova.

The meeting touched on a number of topical issues of bilateral cooperation of Pridnestrovie and the Russian Federation.
