Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev had a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva and Representative of the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva Dragan Lalosevic.
During the meeting the sides discussed the implementation of joint projects in the field of restoration of social infrastructure, strengthening of health system, protection of the rights of people with disabilities and countering the spread of HIV/AIDS.
The Pridnestrovian side made a particular emphasis on the new restrictions for the movement of vehicles with Pridnestrovian registration plates, on the continuing practice to initiate politically motivated criminal cases, on the facts of deportation from the airport of Kishinev of the citizens residing in Pridnestrovie.
It was noted that unilateral destructive actions of Moldova destroyed the atmosphere of trust that was gradually built through the efforts of international organizations, including the UN programmes. Vitaly Ignatiev said that the deported citizens of Pridnestrovie were uprooted from their families and in fact left without a livelihood. The diplomat also drew attention to the outrageous fact that the officer of the Ministry for Internal Affairs of the PMR had been in prison in Athens for a long time.
UN officials expressed their intention to contribute to the improvement of the situation and provide assistance in the framework of their competence, including through the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Special attention was paid to the implementation of the recommendations of Senior UN Expert on Human Rights in Pridnestrovie Thomas Hammarberg. The two sides agreed to start developing a consolidated document jointly, the purpose of which will be summing up the intermediate results and the identification of the difficulties faced by the Pridnestrovian side, and the identification of areas in which the international support may be given.
The sides noted the high level of understanding and agreed to continue contacts on issues of mutual interest.
