Vadim Krasnoselsky held a telephone conversation with the State Secretary - Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin

09/28/17

The interlocutors exchanged views on the current situation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova. They expressed a unified position on the need for systematic and rhythmic work in all the negotiation areas. They talked about the expediency of holding the next meeting in the 5+2 format without preliminary conditions. It was stressed that today, in fact, it is about resuscitating the dialogue in the “Permanent Conference...” format, since from June 2016 its participants have never gathered at the negotiating table. This state of affairs is seen as unacceptable by participants in a telephone conversation.

During the conversation, common positions of Pridnestrovie and the Russian Federation on a number of fundamental aspects of the international situation and the situation around Pridnestrovie, in particular, concerning the negotiation process, were once again confirmed: the consolidated view is that it is possible to achieve a mutually acceptable result exclusively through a dialogue where Pridnestrovie is an equal participant. The possible consequences of stagnation or disruption of the negotiation process were not ignored. The defining role of the OSCE mission was underlined.

Special attention was paid to the PMR’s request to the UN for a special status of the observer state in the organization. The Head of the Pridnestrovian state informed the Russian diplomat that at the last meeting of the Supreme Council the document received unanimous support from the deputy corps of the Republic. Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed that in the conditions of artificial backpedalling of the dialogue within the negotiating mechanism the presence of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic on new platforms, in particular, the UN, would make it possible to communicate the position of Pridnestrovie more effectively to the international community. At the same time, the President drew attention to the fact that it is not supposed to abandon the current platform of the “Permanent Conference...”.

In the conversation the parties stressed the Russia’s decisive role as a guarantor of the negotiation process. Some issues of Russian-Pridnestrovian cooperation on topical areas of bilateral cooperation have also been touched upon.
