The Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Franco Frattini handed over license plates and temporary registration certificates to the car owners.

The OSCE delegation led by the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Franco Frattini visited the Vehicle Registration Office in Tiraspol. The political representatives from the PMR and the Republic of Moldova Vitaly Ignatiev and Kristina Lesnik, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of the Russian Federation, the Italian Republic and the United States, as well as the Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova also visited the VRO.

During the event, the VRO team made a brief presentation of the VRO operation and the vehicles registration procedure for the OSCE delegation. After the tour over the VRO facilities, Franco Frattini, in the presence of the political representatives, handed over the license plates and temporary registration certificates to the first car owners who have received the services of the VRO.

The communication with the media was the final stage of the event. During the briefing Franco Frattini thanked the parties for their professional cooperation. He also expressed an opinion that the launch of the Vehicle Registration Offices is a historic event for people who can now freely travel abroad, including the EU countries.

“This event is a common result for the two parties, the result of ongoing cooperation and meetings in various formats. At the beginning of my mandate we [with Vitaly Ignatiev, Kristina Lesnik] decided to focus on those issues that will improve the everyday life of ordinary people. This is one of the most important results that has been achieved in a fairly short time”, he said.

Concluding his conversation with journalists, the Italian diplomat emphasized that the resolution of the issue of participation of road transport from the PMR in the international road traffic is primarily a result of the bilateral dialogue between the PMR and the Republic of Moldova.

“The OSCE can help the parties, promote, encourage, but it all depends on the parties. Neither Vienna, nor Rome, nor Brussels will replace their efforts and desires”, Franco Frattini said.
