President of Pridnestrovie receives a delegation of the Republic of Poland

​President of Pridnestrovie Yevgeny Shevchuk had a meeting with a Polish delegation headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Conrad Pavlik. The meeting was held at the initiative of the Polish side. As part of the exchange of views the sides discussed issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, attention was paid to the socio-economic situation in Pridnestrovie. Pridnestrovie’s President noted that as a result of the impact of the blockade measures taken by the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, as well as because of the general instability in the region the country’s economy and situation of the citizens of Pridnestrovie deteriorated. For the first half of 2015 foreign trade turnover of Pridnestrovie has decreased by almost 24 percent compared to the same period last year. The exports declined by more than 20 percent and imports - by more than 25 percent. Trade turnover between Pridnestrovie and in particular Poland, for the first six months of 2015 fell by more than 4 times or by 77 percent compared to the same period in 2014.

In addition, the meeting touched upon the current situation in the negotiation process and the possibility of the resumption of work in the “5+2” format. Yevgeny Shevchuk drew attention to a number of topical issues, including the initiation of politically motivated criminal cases by the Republic of Moldova against a number of officials and businessmen of Pridnestrovie. The President of the PMR emphasized that the Pridnestrovian side has consistently stood for the resolution of all problematic issues solely by diplomatic means at the negotiating table.

The President of Pridnestrovie and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland also discussed the prospects of bilateral cooperation. The Pridnestrovian President noted the openness of the Pridnestrovian state for initiatives in cultural and humanitarian spheres.
