Nina Shtanski to Anatoly Torkunov: “MGIMO (University) opened to its graduates the way to the world of big politics and diplomacy”
Festive events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) of the MFA of Russia took place in Moscow these days. The graduates of different years among which there are many well-known politicians, scientists, diplomats, public men were invited to the celebration. Head of the Foreign Ministry of Pridnestrovie Nina Shtanski arrived to congratulate the University personally.  The congratulatory message conveyed to Rector of MGIMO Anatoly Torkunov says, particularly: “Over the years of its existence the University that you lead had a glorious history, full of high achievements and victories. Spacious mind, a special level of professional training always distinguished MGIMO graduates. The University opened the way to the world of big politics and diplomacy for many successful statesmen not only in the USSR and contemporary Russia, but also in many other countries. MGIMO is developing dynamically today, it develops and promotes new educational technologies that allows the University to be among the most prestigious education establishments in the world, yet preserving and developing the best traditions of national diplomacy”.In the congratulatory address it was particularly noted the contribution that MGIMO makes to qualification enhancement and professional development of the Pridnestrovian youth. We remind that MGIMO annually provides to Pridnestrovian graduates and young scientists - postgraduates the opportunity to study in the University. Today, the monument to the eminent Russian diplomat A.M. Gorchakov has also been opened in MGIMO.The II International Forum of MGIMO Graduates was opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov. “During the last 70 years, tens of thousands of graduates have formed a powerful constellation of statesmen, politicians, diplomats and businessmen… There are many MGIMO graduates abroad, who have reached the highest levels of politics, diplomacy, business, journalism and a number of other areas,” – said the Head of the MFA of the RF. “MGIMO likewise inculcates a combination of patriotism and friendliness towards foreign partners. The curriculum is so structured as to enable everyone to find a comfortable path to forming professional skills,”- he stressed. The Forum was followed by the plenary session “Russia and contemporary world: development trajectory”. The conversation of graduates became substantive in the framework of thematic panels.Nina Shtanski attended the section “Information Technologies of XXI century”, moderated by Dean of the School of International Journalism Y.L. Skvortsov and First Deputy Director-General of the ITAR-TASS News Agency M.S. Gusman.
In the information section leading scientists in the field of journalism shared the latest good practices on information policy. In particularly, it was said that there are a lot of “noise” in media sphere due to which the content is not heard from time to time.  The Head of the Pridnestrovian diplomacy voiced her expert view on that issue. “The journalism is not initiative, but reactive today. First, the problem occurs, it serves as an information cause and only then a journalist reaction appears. This is particularly well illustrated by the example of Pridnestorovie. The Federal TV channel of the RF will surely broadcast the annual cheese festival, but will not broadcast peach tree blossoming in Pridnestrovie, the celebration of “Mertsishor” or holiday of wine. They will air problematic material more likely. Then, conflict discourse around Pridnestrovie is strengthened, stereotypes are negative, in other words, that very “noise” which gurus of journalism mention, again remains obvious. And many people will take the information for propaganda for sure. Thus, today's problem is lack of preventive and proactive journalism, forming positive stereotypes,” – said the Minister while participating in the “Information section”. The issue raised by her was further developed within the debates around the problem of stereotypes.Tomorrow, according to the programme of activities, open lectures will be presented to the attention of the guests; they will be held by foreign graduates from the University. The ceremonial activities will be closed by an evening devoted to the 70th anniversary of MGIMO University and will be held in the Grand Kremlin Palace.
