The Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting between PMR Minister of Foreign Affairs Vitaly Ignatiev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland in Moldova Bartlomiej Zdaniuk, who visited Pridnestrovie for the first time since his appointment.
Welcoming the guest, Vitaly Ignatiev noted that Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Poland had longstanding partnership relations, including thanks to Ambassador Arthur Michalski, who completed his mission in 2017. “I think he has done a lot for development of the Polish diaspora and culture in Pridnestrovie. I would like this work to continue, and our good relations with the Polish side to be preserved and developed,” the Foreign Minister said. In turn, Bartlomiej Zdaniuk noted that he had previously visited the Republic as an employee of the University of Warsaw and was well acquainted with the processes taking place in the regional space.
In course of the dialogue, the interlocutors discussed a wide range of topical issues with an emphasis on the current situation in the negotiation process with the Republic of Moldova. In this context, Vitaly Ignatiev stressed that Pridnestrovie is aimed at a pragmatic dialogue with the Moldovan side to resolve socio-economic and humanitarian problems that impede better people’s well-being. The Foreign Minister of the PMR expressed hope that the representatives of the Republic of Moldova would also adhere to such constructive approaches that had brought tangible results such as five agreements on long-standing contradictions last year.
According to the diplomat, a substantive dialogue without unnecessary complications and politicization is needed in today’s situation, when discussion of political issues has no chance to success. Thus, according to Vitaly Ignatiev, to date, the efforts of international partners should be aimed at assisting the parties in resolving practical problems.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors expressed readiness to maintain contacts and open interaction on the whole range of topical issues, including implementation of joint projects in the cultural and humanitarian spheres.
