On the Results of the Meeting Between Evgeny Shevchuk and Yurie Lyanke

Today Tiraspol hosted the meeting of the President of the PMR Yevgeny Shevchuk and Prime-Minister of the RM Yurie Lyanke. The meeting was aimed at the prolongation of the Protocol Decision On Principles of Resumption of Full-Scale Railway Freight Transportation through the Territory of Pridnestrovie till January 1, 2015. The parties discussed also several issues of mutual interest.

During discussion with the participation of the political representatives of parties Yevgeny Shevchuk and Yurie Lyanke dwelled on issues concerning freedom of movement of people, goods and services, opening of the bridge across the Dniester River, connecting Bychok and Gura-Bykuluy villages. Interlocutors raised the issue of functioning of Moldovan Latin script schools on the territory of Pridnestrovie, and the prospects of the Pridnestrovian economics if initialed the Agreement on a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the European Union by the Republic of Moldova in this November.

At a briefing after the meeting Yevgeny Shevchuk noted the efficiency of the meeting, which was held in a constructive way, according to him. “The fact that we have come to a decision on the prolongation of the Protocol Decision On Principles of Resumption of Full-Scale Railway Freight Transportation through the Territory of Pridnestrovie points to the fact that the socio-economic field, we have a substantial set of instruments to find constructive solutions to the benefit of Moldovan and Pridnestrovian economics,” Yevgeny Shevchuk said. He said that economic agents of Pridnestrovie and Moldova could save last year about 10 million dollar by means of reducing the traffic route. These figures, according to the President, are a positive example of mutual cooperation, when the benefits of the economic agents from both republics come at the forefront. Yevgeny Shevchuk said that the signing of this agreement is also an evidence of good intentions of Pridnestrovie to cooperation and further commitment to the “small steps” tactics, which is the base for a mutually beneficial solution of complex issues.

Yurie Lyanke expressed support to the Pridnestrovian side while striving to seek practical solutions for the benefit of people living in Pridnestrovie and Moldova. “It was important today to express own position, as well as to hear the position of Pridnestrovie. It is important to understand the difference in consideration of problematic issues. I think that we can better understand each other in this way and, potentially, find certain solutions,” said the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
