In the second part of the Round table on the 20th anniversary of the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova: history and prospects, held today in the T.G. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University, an exchange of opinions took place relating to the content and current situation of the negotiation process. The participants of the Round table shared their impressions on the discussion expressing intention to continue communication on that subject.


Member of the Civic Chamber of the PMR, Chairman of the Union of Moldovans Valerian Tulgara noted that Pridnestrovie was able over 24 years of its development to maintain the Russian vector of development and build the system of government providing decent conditions of life for the citizens in the republic. According to him, this fact is one of the bases allowing “to count on support from Russia”. Touching upon the negotiation process, the Chairman of the Union of Moldovans of Pridnestrovie expressed his view on the need for its continuation in spite of some existing difficulties in the relations between Moldova and Pridnestrovie.  

Chairman of the Education, Science and Culture Committee of the Supreme Council of the PMR Vladimir Bodnar in his brief speech emphasized the role of the peacekeeping component in the relationships between the parties, and also expressed his opinion on the need for wider consideration of the civic organizations' role in maintaining peace between the parties.


Co-Chairperson of the Joint Control Commission from the Russian Federation Vasiliy Korchmar pointed to the uniqueness of the negotiation process noted particularly that a wide range of agreements was signed between the parties. According to the Russian representative, there is nothing similar anywhere in the world. At the same time he noted that the issue of the implementation of the reached agreements remained a major problem. Vasiliy Korchmar also expressed confidence that “small steps” tactics which identified the improvement of the peoples' lives as a main element of the negotiation process, was correct and effective. The Russian guest emphasized that with regard to a number of the intensified regional geopolitical processes (the events in Moldova and Ukraine are meant), the entire process of negotiations was on “standby mode”. Vasiliy Korchmar noted that Pridnestrovie pursuing the chosen strategic course should remind about it using various platforms, including the expert ones, running print publications and other instruments. He reiterated a significant role of Russia in ensuring peace and security on the Dniester, as well as the readiness of the Russian Federation to provide any support to compatriots. “Russia will never leave its compatriots alone who live abroad,” – he concluded.


Summarizing results of the event, the Head of the Foreign Ministry of Pridnestrovie Nina Shtanski told about the willingness to adjourn the discussion of today's issues on the platform of the Public Expert Council under the PMR's MFA.
