Deputy Prime Minister of the PMR for International Cooperation, Foreign Minister Nina Shtanski said in exclusive comments to IA “Novosti Pridnestrovya” on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Operational Group of Russian Troops in Pridnestrovie.

The Foreign Minister noted that throughout its history Pridnestrovie could always count on the support and assistance of the Russian Federation. “Being in a difficult political and economic conditions, the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic has always relied on the support of Russia, its protection and the desire to maintain peace on the ground,” said Nina Shtanski.

“Russia, no doubt, plays a key role in ensuring stability in Pridnestrovie and throughout the region. Russian soldier was and remains a symbol of the world: we highly appreciate Russia's contribution to the preservation of the rights and freedoms of the population of the republic, and Russian troops have unprecedentedly high level of confidence on the part of the inhabitants of Pridnestrovie,” said the diplomat.

However, as stressed by Nina Shtanski, the tasks of maintaining peace and security, which the Operational Group of Russian Troops continues to fulfil, and to this day are still important.

“The big is seen at a distance - which is why today, 20 years later, when the degree of political tension increases again, the stay of the Russian military contingent on the Dniester is especially relevant. The contribution of the Operational Group of Russian Troops to maintaining a consistently high level of training of servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent and ensuring its timely rotation plays an important role in preserving the effectiveness of the peacekeeping operation and deserves deep respect”, said the minister.
