Meeting with Head of the British Embassy to Moldova Philip David Batson

09/10/14

Yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held the meeting between Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International Cooperation, Foreign Minister Nina Shtanski and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UK to the Republic of Moldova Philip David Batson.

The Minister highly appreciated the current level of development of the Pridnestrovian - British cooperation and noted the initiatives of the British Embassy in culture and sports, in particularly the Youth Football Festival “Football - Ambassador of Peace” held under the patronage of the Embassy.

David Batson, in his turn, told about the projects in the humanitarian, educational and sports fields planned in the near term by the British Embassy.

The interlocutors agreed to continue the dialogue for those areas.

During the meeting the sides touched upon separate aspects of the current situation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. A particular attention was drawn to the destructive practice of the Moldovan side connected with politically motivated criminal cases initiated against the Pridnestrovian officials. Nina Shtanski emphasized that such actions by Moldova's authorities are able to result in extremely negative consequences impacting adversely on bilateral cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Moldova on the whole.

Also, the Head of the Foreign Ministry noted that the result of the pressure exerted on the Pridnestrovian side was the impossibility of holding the next meeting of the “Permanent Conference” in Vienna as planned on September 11 and 12, 2014. We remind that the Pridnestrovian side put forward with the initiative to hold additional consultations of the 5+2 participants in Pridnestrovie and Moldova.
