Leadership of the PMR’s MFA meets with Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office

On December 22, 2009, a meeting was held in the PMR's MFA between the leadership of the Pridnestrovian Foreign Ministry and the OSCE official delegation headed by Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Mr. Charalampos Christopoulos.

The Pridnestrovian side was represented by Deputies Minister Sergey Simonenko and Alexander Maliarchuk.

The OSCE delegation consisted of the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Philip Remler, Political Advisor of the Mission Juhan Kahk, and representative of the OSCE Center for Conflict Prevention Stijn Schrooten.

The major goal of an honorable guest's visit was to sum up the work of the Greek OSCE Chairmanship in the direction of the Moldova-Pridnestrovie settlement, and also to make certain diplomatic preparations for Kazakhstan to assume the OSCE Chairmanship.    In his turn, Sergey Simonenko marked that the Pridnestrovian side positively estimates efforts of the Greek Chairmanship of the OSCE, especially in the direction of confidence-building measures where certain results were achieved, in particular, the seminar on Cooperation between law-enforcement agencies of Moldova and Pridnestrovie was held on 8-9 November.

At the request of the Greek diplomat, the Deputy Minister explained Pridnestrovian viewpoint regarding prospects for the settlement, laying special emphasis on urgent problems.

In the course of the conversation the interlocutors agreed upon the defining value of equality between the sides, as well as of conditions to enable a free dialogue between Moldova and Pridnestrovie. The Special Representative confirmed commitment of the OSCE to these basic principles.

At the end of the meeting the diplomats expressed their mutual gratitude for a good cooperation and hope for further development of a positive dynamics in the sphere of the settlement during the upcoming OSCE Chairmanship of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
