American Film Festival opens in Tiraspol

Today the 6th edition of the American Film Festival was held at the Tiraspol Cinema. The ceremony was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Moldova James Pettit and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Dmitry Palamarchuk.

During the opening ceremony James Pettit addressed a welcoming speech to the audience. “The idea of ​​the festival of American cinema initially was to demonstrate the local public the best American movies of a specific genre or different genres, but united by a single theme. Over the past five years, we have provided some of the best movies of the greatest American filmmakers. This year's festival is dedicated to persons who change their lives for the better with their example. All the 11 movies that will be presented this year show how personal effort, dedication, and sacrifice can help to make the world a better place,” said the Ambassador.

Deputy Head of the Foreign Ministry of Pridnestrovie Dmitry Palamarchuk, in his turn, highly appreciated the quality and impact of the works of American cinema, he also noted the importance of holding such events in the context of the establishment of intercultural relations.

“The Film Festival is an effective tool for cross-cultural communication, provides a wonderful chance to get acquainted with the rich traditions of American society, contributing to the establishment of mutual understanding between the people of the US and the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic. In addition, it is also a good opportunity to be acquainted with the best works of American cinema on the big screen in the original sound,” the diplomat emphasized.
