Today, on February 14, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Moldova Valery Kuzmin met with the students of T.G. Shevchenko State University to hold an open lecture on the priorities of the Russian foreign policy. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pridnestrovie Nina Shtanski, Rector of the University Stepan Beril and Deputy Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev took part in the event.

During the conversation with the students Valery Kuzmin touched upon the issues which lie in the mainstream of modern international politics. He gave a detailed outlook upon the situation in the Middle East, mentioned the problems of the European security, pointed out the importance of the integration processes on the post-Soviet space in the context of the world financial and economic crisis. Considering the global processes, Valery Kuzmin named the creation of the highly beneficial conditions of the development of the country in order to increase welfare and self-actualization of citizens to be the top priority of Russian foreign policy.

After the conversation with the young people, Valery Kuzmin answered the questions of the journalists. Responding on the troubles with the work of Russian mobile consulate Valery Kuzmin pointed out that the Embassy of the Russian Federation is not able to open the permanent representation in Pridnestrovie. As he put it, the question of the opening of the General Consulate is one of the topics of the negotiations with the Republic of Moldova for many years. Yet, there is still no progress. Nevertheless Valery Kuzmin promised to take measures on activization of activity of mobile consulate. He emphasized that human rights will not be violated. Concerning the question of opening of polling stations in Pridnestrovie for future Presidential elections in Russia, the Ambassador noted, that the scheme used during Duma elections in December 2011 will be preserved.

Question of resumption of full-fledged activity of Russian consulate in Tiraspol was also addressed to Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Nina Shtanski. Diplomat noted that this topic was recently touched upon on the meeting between the head of Russian diplomatic representative office and the President of the PMR Yevgeny Shevchuk. The Pridnestrovien side was given the explanations: the existing difficulties are temporary and Russian Embassy expects that situation will be solved in the near future. “In many countries of the world there are three or four representatives of Russian MFA working in consular offices; but there are one thousand or one and a half thousand people, registered in these offices. We all know, that more than one hundred and seventy thousand citizens are registered in Russian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. That is why we must treat the amount of work, which lies on the shoulders of the personnel of Embassy, with understanding,” explained Nina Shtanski. She appealed to mass media to desist from sharp comments to the address of Russian diplomatic representative office and expressed gratitude to Embassy for constant attention towards the problem.
