In Connection with Declarations of Moldova\'s Prime-Minister

04/20/11

In Pridnestrovie attention was paid to a number of declarations made by Prime-Minister of the Republic of Moldova Mr. V. Filat about his approaches towards interaction with the leadership of the Pridnestrovien Moldavian Republic, including those made after official message of the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Pridnestrovien Moldavian Republic I. N. Smirnov had been delivered to him.

In this connection, the Pridnestrovien side once again reminds that the corresponding invitation was sent to Mr. Filat through official channels and Tiraspol expects the response to be adequate in its form and meaningful in its matter, the more so as the Pridnestrovien initiative among other things sets forth specific issues which the heads of executive power of the Republic of Moldova and the Pridnestrovien Moldavian Republic could discuss in the framework of the meeting. Mr. Filat is well informed about the date and venue of the proposed meeting and about through which channels the alignment of organisational and other aspects is settled. The mass media channels are not among these channels, hence, the Pridnestrovien side is not going to enter public discussion about the format and time of various contacts.

Nevertheless, we assume that the meeting proposed by the Pridnestrovien side is an optimal opportunity for the leadership of the Republic of Moldova to show real political will which representatives of Moldova so frequently speak about at different international platforms, and to proceed to real steps aimed at practical solution of the existing problems in relations between the Republic of Moldova and the Pridnestrovien Moldavian Republic. We are convinced also that setting forth “conditions” for the launch of such work at intergovernmental level is counter-productive and totally contradicts the repeated statements of the official Chisinau about its intent to carry out a dialogue with Pridnestrovie in the framework of various settlement formats, without any “preliminary conditions”.

As noted above, in Pridnestrovie one is still waiting  for an official response of the Prime-Minister of the Republic of Moldova on the initiative of the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Pridnestrovien Moldavian Republic in order to define further steps and comprehend more clearly the position of the Moldovan authorities about interaction with the Pridnestrovien side.
