Following the working meeting of political representatives held on February 26, Pridnestrovie proposed convening a meeting of economic experts from March 3 to 9 of this year.
The initiative was driven by the urgent need to put a stop to Moldova’s discriminatory plans to collect VAT, excise taxes, and other illegal payments from Pridnestrovian enterprises. Based on current assessments, the relevant Moldovan draft law could trigger a large-scale humanitarian crisis, leading to a decline in production and trade, as well as widespread human rights violations. The implementation of Chisinau’s destructive intentions risks undermining the supply of energy resources and fuel to the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic and permanently blocking the settlement process.
Pridnestrovian initiatives to intensify economic dialogue have been ignored by the Republic of Moldova; consequently, the Pridnestrovian side has sent repeated requests demanding to be included in the process and urging Moldova to refrain from adopting the aforementioned bill. To date, Chisinau has not responded to any of Pridnestrovia’s initiatives. Meanwhile, the discriminatory bill aimed at increasing economic pressure on Pridnestrovie was adopted by the Moldovan Parliament in its first reading.
Moldova’s approach demonstrates a refusal to engage in meaningful, open cooperation and a continuation of discrimination against the citizens and economic sector of Pridnestrovie.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that the adoption of such measures in the absence of dialogue contradicts the principles and agreements of the negotiation process, as well as international and European norms, which renders Chisinau’s actions unlawful.
Pridnestrovie will continue to defend the interests of its citizens and economic entities through negotiations and other available means. We call on the Moldovan side to promptly agree to hold a meeting of relevant experts, to refrain from attempts to pressure Pridnestrovian citizens, and to revise the conflict paradigm in relations.
At the same time, we call on all international participants in the “5+2” format to make the necessary efforts to prevent another round of the economic blockade of Pridnestrovie, which leads to the destabilization of the situation and massive violations of citizens’ socio-economic rights.
