On the Meeting of Expert (Working) Groups on Transport and Road Infrastructure Development

03/20/26

Today, as a continuation of the dialogue between the political representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova, an online meeting of the expert (working) groups on transport and road infrastructure development was held.

A key topic of the meeting was the need to reinstate, as provided for in the Protocol Decision of April 24, 2018, the eligibility for registration in the VROs of vehicles imported into Pridnestrovie after September 2018. The current agreement explicitly provides for such a mechanism, while car owners’ interest in this option continues to grow.

A range of issues and proposals related to the operation and specific features of the VROs were discussed, taking into account the needs of citizens and the relevant agencies of the parties. Pridnestrovian representatives noted that providing access to the mechanism for all interested vehicle owners would serve as an incentive for constructive cooperation in addressing technical gaps in the operation of the Vehicle Registration Offices. In this context, Pridnestrovie proposed organizing a joint visit by the parties and mediators to the Vehicle Registration Office in Tiraspol to work out acceptable solutions in practice.

The Pridnestrovian side once again put forward a substantive initiative to resolve the issue of driver’s licenses by utilizing the capabilities and infrastructure of the VROs, and reiterated its call for the registration of 1-2 ambulances with the VROs for the urgent transport of patients from Pridnestrovian medical facilities to foreign countries.

In response to interest expressed by the Moldovan side, Pridnestrovie emphasized the need for joint planning and coordination in the event of repair work on the bridges across the Dniester River.
