Minister of Foreign Affairs Vitaly Ignatiev took part in a meeting of the Supreme Council’s Commission on Foreign Policy and International Relations, which was held online today.

In his speech, the PMR Foreign Minister spoke about the current situation surrounding Pridnestrovie. Particular emphasis was placed on the negotiation process with the Republic of Moldova, where, according to the diplomat, there is a lack of constructive dynamics and an acute shortage of contacts at all levels. It was noted that Chisinau denies all proposals to hold meetings of the political representatives, putting forward deliberately unacceptable preconditions.

“At this stage, the Moldovan side continues to follow the strategy it has chosen to minimize political and diplomatic contacts and to limit the use of these mechanisms for resolving problems, while at the same time maintaining systematic pressure on Pridnestrovie,” the minister said. He noted that in the absence of dialogue, the number of issues requiring joint action is multiplying, for example, in the field of ecology of the Dniester and the fight against crime.

Vitaly Ignatiev stressed the need to find solutions to all problems at the negotiating table, including by resuming the “5+2” format and communication at the leadership level. In this context, speaking about Pridnestrovie’s latest international contacts, he noted that “the endless stagnation of the negotiation process will not continue” and that foreign representatives are gradually “developing a clear understanding that without negotiations and without interaction with Pridnestrovie, it is impossible to move forward”.

At the end of his speech, the diplomat expressed the Foreign Ministry’s readiness to cooperate with the Supreme Council and answered a number of questions from deputies regarding the implementation of the PMR’s foreign policy at the current stage.
