On the Meeting of Road Transport Experts

02/25/25

Today, at the initiative of the Pridnestrovian side, an online meeting of the transport and road expert (working) groups was held. The meeting focused on issues related to the operation of the Vehicle Registration Offices in Tiraspol and Ribnitsa, along with a number of other topics of interest.

In response to numerous appeals from vehicle owners and in accordance with the provisions of the Protocol Decision “On the Participation of Vehicles from Pridnestrovie not Engaged in Commercial Activities in the International Road Traffic”, Pridnestrovie once again raised the issue of allowing the registration of vehicles imported after April 24, 2018, at the Vehicle Registration Offices (VROs). The Moldovan side assured that the necessary regulatory legal acts for implementing this obligation could be adopted in the near future, and applicants would be additionally informed.

The meeting included a detailed discussion on the registration of four Pridnestrovian ambulances at the Vehicle Registration Offices (VROs), which are essential for transporting citizens in need of medical care abroad. This dialogue will continue based on the existing proposals.

The parties exchanged views on procedural aspects related to the provision of technical inspection services by Pridnestrovian stations for vehicles with neutral license plates and agreed that there are no obstacles to increasing their number, provided that existing requirements are met.

The Pridnestrovian side once again petitioned for a reduction in service fees at the Vehicle Registration Offices (VROs) and shared its views on how to achieve this goal, including seeking assistance from international partners.

The representatives of the Republic of Moldova informed that there are no plans to ban vehicle owners with valid Pridnestrovian driver’s licenses from driving on Moldovan roads. At the same time, Pridnestrovie once again proposed further development of mechanisms to enable Pridnestrovian drivers to travel to third countries through Moldova’s state border. In this regard, specific ideas and principles were outlined that could form the basis of a future agreement, taking into account international standards set by the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic.
