Today, about five tons of waste low-current sources were removed outside Pridnestrovie for subsequent disposal from the temporary storage warehouse of MUP Spetzavtokhozyaystvo (Special Vehicle Agency) in Tiraspol.
For several years now, the batteries have been collecting from the population by the relevant agencies and EcoPMR Public Ecological Volunteer Movement.
Notably, Pridnestrovie lacks any designated enterprises dealing with the disposal of used batteries. Moreover, used low-current sources bear grave environmental and population health risks.
In this regard, the Pridnestrovian side is engaged in ongoing dialogue with the OSCE Mission on options for transporting the batteries to the Republic of Moldova for disposal by an appropriate company.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the relevant agencies and the international sponsors, will continue efforts aimed at supporting and practically implementing current humanitarian projects.
