Today, the meeting of expert (working) groups on economic issues took place at the initiative of the Pridnestrovian side via videoconference.
The agenda of the meeting proposed by Pridnestrovie centered on new economic problems predicted in the light of Moldova’s destructive steps.
The Pridnestrovian side presented its opinion on the plans of the Republic of Moldova to monopolize the local market of scrap and import scrap metal from third countries through the state enterprise Metalferos. The focus was on the commercial component and pricing policy, as well as logistical issues. These aspects require a careful approach and competent solutions so as to eliminate obstacles to the MMZ operations and preserve its competitiveness.
Regarding the so-called “producer’s extended responsibility” in the import of goods subject to processing and utilization, it was stated that the intent of the Republic of Moldova to charge payments in favor of the profile Moldovan associations for services not actually provided was unjustified. Sergey Obolonik, head of the group from Pridnestrovie, emphasized that relevant actions are performed on the territory of the PMR and any payment for the services of Moldovan associations forces economic agents to act in breach of the law.
The participants also addressed the problem of unreasonably levied customs duties to the budget of the Republic of Moldova and the blocking of cargo exports of Pridnestrovian industrial enterprises. No constructive solutions were agreed upon to overcome these two problems.
