The Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting of PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev with the head of the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Doris El Doueihy.
Opening the dialogue, Vitaly Ignatiev informed the guests about the destructive actions of the Moldovan authorities with regard to the functioning of the healthcare system in Pridnestrovie. In particular, the politically motivated blockade of imports of medicines and medical equipment into the country is still in place.
“Instead of building stability on the banks of the Dniester, they create tension and artificially flare up social and humanitarian crises. Should the ICRC encourage the Moldovan leadership to take a humanitarian look at the matter, we may succeed,” the Minister said.
Vitaly Ignatiev added that on 28 February, the VII Congress of Deputies of All Levels adopted a Declaration, which envisages an appeal to the International Committee of the Red Cross to ensure conditions for the implementation of social and humanitarian rights, including in the healthcare sphere, as well as the interests and inalienable freedoms of all Pridnestrovians.
The head of the ICRC delegation, Doris El Doueihy, said that the information was handed over to the organization’s leadership and would be studied in detail. She thanked the Pridnestrovian side for the systematic facilitation of the mission’s activities on the territory of the republic and revealed plans to continue humanitarian projects in healthcare and other fields, including the support for refugees.
