Today, a meeting of expert (working) groups on transport and road infrastructure development was held online.
The prospects and deadlines for resuming the full functioning of the Vehicle Registration Offices in Tiraspol and Rybnita were discussed. The Pridnestrovian side reiterated its interest in resuming the mechanism as soon as possible, as well as stressed the need for the VRO to operate in full compliance with the provisions of the Protocol Decision “On the Participation of Vehicles from Pridnestrovie not Engaged in Commercial Activities in the International Road Traffic” of 24 April 2018.
In particular, attention was drawn to the need to ensure access to registration and obtaining neutral number plates for all interested car owners permanently residing in Pridnestrovie (without discrimination on the basis of second citizenship) and to eliminate any other restrictions not provided for by the said agreement.
Separately, at the initiative of Pridnestrovie, the inadmissibility of any bans on the movement of vehicles registered in the PMR across the territory of the Republic of Moldova was outlined. It was emphasized that any restrictions would be construed by the Pridnestrovian side as a violation of the 2018 Protocol Decision (paragraphs 1 and 4) and other previously reached agreements and would entail the application of relevant measures.
