On 22 January 2019, the Official Representative Office of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in the Russian Federation opened in Moscow.
The key tasks assigned to the new PMR foreign institution were to deepen comprehensive relations with Russia and to tune systematic work with the Pridnestrovian diaspora living there. Leonid Manakov, an experienced lawyer, vice-president of the Russian Lawyers Guild and former first deputy minister of Internal Affairs of the PMR, was appointed its head.
Over the years, the Official Representative Office has become an effective auxiliary tool in the implementation of the country’s foreign policy course. Its staff constantly receives and processes citizens’ appeals, providing qualified counselling and practical assistance to thousands of Pridnestrovians (in 2023 alone, about two thousand requesters applied). Contacts with Russian parliamentarians, human rights activists, public organizations, cultural and sports figures are regularly carried out. Dozens of conferences and round tables on the widest range of topics and problems, as well as many cultural and educational events have been held on the platform of the foreign institution.
One of the landmark achievements in the activity of the Representative Office was the organization of regular speeches by Leonid Manakov at the United Nations Human Rights Council, whose rostrum is used to inform the international community about the situation in the field of respecting the rights and freedoms of the Pridnestrovian population.
The Representative Office also holds commemorative actions in Moscow and other Russian cities related to significant events in the history of Pridnestrovie, as well as arranges marches of the column “Pridnestrovie. Immortal Regiment” as part of the Immortal Regiment march in the Russian capital on 9 May.
