Today, Minister Vitaly Ignatiev met with a large delegation of the Heinrich Böll Foundation at the Foreign Ministry.
The Foundation, established in Germany in 1987, implements and supports projects in the fields of civil society development, human rights and international dialogue.
Talking to German experts, Vitaly Ignatiev spoke in detail about the historical aspects related to the development of the Pridnestrovian territory, the political and legal background for the establishment of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, the Moldova-Pridnestrovie conflict, the formation of the peacekeeping mechanism and the beginning of the negotiation process. He also explained why the term “Transnistria” is unacceptable when referring to Pridnestrovie.
After his speech, the Minister answered a wide range of questions from the Böll Foundation representatives regarding the security situation, foreign policy and economic development of the PMR, as well as current relations with Moldova.
When talking about the prospects for settling the Moldova-Pridnestrovie conflict, Vitaly Ignatiev stressed that today there are two entities – Pridnestrovie and Moldova, two different states, each having its own identity.
“De facto, the settlement process has already taken place, the two entities already exist. Accordingly, it is necessary to define de jure the formula of relationship between them. We believe that this can be a treaty of friendship, peace and cooperation between Pridnestrovie and Moldova in order to end this conflict,” the diplomat said.
