On the Meeting with the U.S. Delegation

08/28/23

Today, the Foreign Ministry hosted the meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandr Stetsiuk and the U.S. Embassy delegation in Moldova, comprising political advisers Mark Motyleski and Andrew Freeman.

The discussion focused on the current situation in the negotiation process. The PMR Deputy Foreign Minister stated that the Moldovan side continues to evade constructive dialogue, at the same time increasing the complex of pressure measures on Pridnestrovie.

In this context, he drew attention to the negative trends in the freedom of movement related to the destruction of the VRO mechanism and the de facto withdrawal of the Republic of Moldova from the agreement on MTPL, expanded toolkit for criminal prosecution of Pridnestrovian officials and citizens due to the adoption of the so-called “law on separatism” in Moldova, as well as hampering the import to the PMR of socially important goods, including medicines, medical equipment and foodstuffs.

In the course of the dialogue, Alexandr Stetsiuk emphasized the need for diplomatic support to the negotiation process from the international participants in the settlement. The interlocutors agreed on the need to intensify the dialogue between Pridnestrovie and Moldova, including at the expert level.
