A meeting with Floris van Eijk, Chargé d’Affaires of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Moldova, took place in the office of President Vadim Krasnoselsky. The European diplomat was accompanied by the Embassy’s officials in charge of economic and political affairs. From the Pridnestrovian side, Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev took part in the working discussion.
The sides discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation. They focused separately on issues related to the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and Moldova. The participants in the meeting pointed to a protracted pause in the work of the Permanent Conference, stressing the need to urgently revitalize the negotiating process. Vadim Krasnoselsky underlined that Pridnestrovie stands exclusively for a peaceful dialogue at the negotiating table and is doing its utmost to foster this dialogue. Among the numerous problems faced by the Pridnestrovians, the PMR President singled out Moldova’s adoption of the so-called Law on Separatism. He stressed that the new norms of the neighboring state’s criminal legislation are a serious step towards the escalation of the conflict that the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic has been opposed to for more than three decades.
For his part, Floris van Eijk said he was aware of the difficulties faced by the Pridnestrovian citizens in the current reality. He stressed the complexity of the geopolitical situation and the economic problems caused by the closure of the Ukrainian border and the subsequent restrictive measures imposed by Moldova. The diplomat said he came to the republic to hear Pridnestrovie’s opinion and discuss ways to overcome the situation and ways to resolve the crisis in the work of the 5+2 format.
