PMR President Received Russian Ambassador

02/03/23

The office of President of Pridnestrovie hosted a meeting between President Vadim Krasnoselsky and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov. This is the first contact in 2023. The previous conversation was held in December last year. Despite the short period between the two meetings, the agenda has been enriched with new issues that require joint work on their solution, said Vadim Krasnoselsky, welcoming the guest.

The negotiation process in the format of the Permanent Conference remains a relevant topic. Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed that he considered 5+2 to be the optimal workable platform and expressed his hope for the resumption of the dialogue in this format, which had proven its effectiveness. The Head of the Pridnestrovian state urged all participants, including the Russian Federation, to intensify processes aimed at resuming real negotiations. Vadim Krasnoselsky is convinced that the bilateral relations of the guarantor countries, Russia and Ukraine, should not be projected onto the work of the 5+2 format. The President spoke about the importance of the dialogue at all levels – working groups, political representatives, and top officials, noting that he did not exclude the possibility of meetings between the Heads of the republics.

Oleg Vasnetsov expressed his interest in discussing issues on the negotiating agenda and his desire to solve problematic aspects. He mentioned the pre-planned meeting of political representatives of Pridnestrovie and Moldova on February 17, as well as the possible visit of an OSCE delegation headed by the new chairman of the European organization.

Speaking about bilateral Pridnestrovian-Russian interaction, Vadim Krasnoselsky noted that its spectrum is broad and diverse: peacekeeping, economy, energy, social and humanitarian contacts, culture, education. “I would like to dwell on each subject, each position, because not only the fate of Pridnestrovie as a whole depends on them, but also the fate of each person living here. I would like to move away from the global, to talk about the specifics, concerning the applications of citizens, including those addressed to the Administration of the PMR President”, stressed Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The Russian ambassador noted that he is closely observing events in Pridnestrovie. He said that he had read the contents of the January 17 message by the PMR President to the state authorities and administration and had learned important information for the development of further bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the interlocutors mentioned an important historical date: the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad, the victory of the Soviet people in which was a turning point in the Great Patriotic War.
