An event to mark the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation between the PMR and Abkhazia was held at the Official Representation of the Republic of Abkhazia to the PMR. The document became a basic bilateral agreement that laid the foundation for Pridnestrovian-Abkhazian relations. The two states were able to officially establish cooperation in the diplomatic, economic, cultural, humanitarian and military-political areas, as well as to exchange experience in state-building.
PMR Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Stetsiuk noted that a solid foundation for bilateral relations was laid in 1993.
“Afterwards, for decades, we have been developing and accumulating the base of treaties, interdepartmental and sectoral agreements. Now the legal treaty base comprises about 30 documents,” the diplomat said.
In 2017 an updated treaty on friendship and cooperation was signed between the brotherly republics, which reflects new spectrums of tasks and areas of interaction.
“We do our best not to lose this friendly thread that stretches through three decades,” Alexandr Stetsiuk concluded.
Presentation and ceremonial cancellation of a series of “30 years of the Treaty on Friendship with the Republic of Abkhazia (fruit of Abkhazia)” postage stamps took place at the event. The circulation is 6000 stamps.
