Leonid Manakov Addressed the Participants of the 51st Session of the UN Human Rights Council

10/06/22

Leonid Manakov, Head of the PMR Official Representation in the Russian Federation, addressed the participants of the 51st session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva in an online format:

“There is a significant decline in the dynamics and quality of the dialogue between Pridnestrovie and the Moldovan authorities. Over the past year, the meetings of the negotiators have been unstable, and the irresponsible approach of the Moldovan side prevents the solution of acute problems and creates new ones.

The closure of the Ukrainian-Pridnestrovian border allowed Moldova to impose serious restrictions on the import of vital goods, including medicines, ban the movement of vehicles registered in Pridnestrovie, new restrictions in the banking sector and in the movement of citizens. This grossly violates the rights of Pridnestrovian residents, including the numerous Ukrainian refugees on this territory.

Moldova has now significantly increased pressure on the half-million population of Pridnestrovie, flagrantly violating people’s rights and freedoms, including the right to life and health, the right to development, and others. In this regard, I urge the HRC and the international community to make efforts to prevent human rights violations by the Moldovan authorities in Pridnestrovie. We ask the Human Rights Council to assess this destructive approach of Moldova and to encourage Chisinau to strictly comply with all the agreements previously signed with Pridnestrovie.”
