On August 17, after a two-year standstill, a meeting of Pridnestrovian and Moldovan telecommunication experts was held via videoconference with representatives of mediators and observers.
The meeting mainly focused on the fulfillment of obligations under the Protocol Decision on Measures to Organize Interaction in the Field of Tele- and Electrocommunications of November 25, 2017, as well as the follow-up Roadmap of June 28, 2018.
The discussion revealed that over the past two years the Moldovan side has not taken any practical measures to implement the provisions of the signed documents. Moreover, Moldovan officials voiced a number of theses that lead to their revision and negate the efforts made by experts and external participants of the negotiation process in 2018-2020. This state of affairs contributes to the deterioration in using the radio frequency spectrum, and creates harmful interference for telecommunication operators and people in Pridnestrovie.
The Pridnestrovian delegation pointed out that existing contractual and legal mechanisms and agreements regulating relations in the field of telecommunications have no alternatives. The Moldovan side was invited to officially present to all the participants in the negotiating process its stance on the previously signed documents and proposals on the parameters of further cooperation with Pridnestrovie in this field.
In the course of the meeting, experts also exchanged views on the current situation in postal communication between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova. Moreover, it was suggested that the Moldovan side should outline some aspects of postal items delivery at the meeting of expert (working) groups on customs issues.
