The Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting between Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Moldova Steven Fisher.

The discussion was focused on the issues related to the current situation in the field of regional security. In this context, Vitaly Ignatiev expressed particular concern about the strengthened militarization processes in Moldova, including the possible supply of lethal weapons to the neighboring state.

“Moldova is neither at war with anyone, nor is it threatened by anyone. But if it receives weapons, this could become a serious destabilization factor. I wouldn’t want it to become a reason for the events of 1992 to repeat,” stated the Minister.

With regard to the negotiation process, the Foreign Minister stressed the need for the participants of the Moldovan-Pridnestrovian settlement to focus on solving a number of acute social and humanitarian problems, including Moldova’s blocking the import of medications and other goods into Pridnestrovie.

Closing the meeting, Vitaly Ignatiev and Steven Fisher agreed to continue working communication on the entire range of topical issues.
