The Foreign Ministry held a working meeting with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation represented by Samuel Marc Fensterheim and Maria Arranz Arranz. From the Pridnestrovian side the meeting was attended by heads of relevant departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry Ministry of Social Protection and Labor and the Ministry of Health Alexander Khonitsky, Natalia Ovcharenko and Angela Diachenko.
The discussion mainly focused on the Pridnestrovian support system for people with disabilities and the provision of appropriate assistance to refugees from Ukraine.
In particular, the Pridnestrovian experts highlighted in detail the issues of social and medical provision to these vulnerable groups of population and drew attention to the fact that the Ukrainian refugees in the territory of the republic, in full and free of charge, are provided with a similar range of services.
At the guests’ request, statistics on the citizens who arrived from Ukraine, their age categories and information about the refugee accommodation centers operating in the Republic were also presented.
Special emphasis during the meeting was placed on the problem of Moldova blocking the import of medicines to Pridnestrovie. ICRC representatives used particular examples to illustrate the situation related to the growing shortage of medicines, its negative impact on the quality of medical care provided to the residents of the republic.
Closing the meeting the parties agreed to maintain contacts and continue a meaningful dialogue on support for refugees and the resolution of humanitarian problems.
