On the Meeting of Motor Transport Field Experts

04/22/22

On April 20, an online discussion of expert (working) groups on transport and road infrastructure development was held. Proposals to convene this meeting were repeatedly voiced by the Pridnestrovian side since last December (the previous one took place on September 24, 2021), but were consistently ignored by the Moldovan side.

It was a quick meeting which showed that the Moldovan counterparts were again not ready for a meaningful result-oriented discussion. In particular, the Moldovan side failed to comment on the return of illegally seized blanks of Pridnestrovian license plates. Furthermore, no comments and views were provided as to the draft Protocol Decision prepared earlier by Pridnestrovie on ensuring access to the VRO registration services for the commercial vehicles. This document was submitted to Moldova on three occasions in the last six months, but no official response, in writing or orally, followed.

Separately, the Pridnestrovian side urged to revise some Moldova-imposed restrictions against the activities of road passenger carriers both operating domestic routes and providing transport services, currently disrupted, to Russia and Ukraine.

The Pridnestrovian side stressed the need for the next meeting to be held in a face-to-face format to ensure that the dialogue is substantive and productive.
