Today, the presentation of the fourth volume of the monograph “History of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic” took place in the small hall of the Palace of the Republic. The event was attended by members of the editorial board and the composite authors of the publication, including the PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev and the State Adviser to the PMR President Anna Volkova, as well as the First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov, heads of executive authorities, Rector and professors of the Taras Shevchenko PSU, etc.
The fourth volume of the monograph “History of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic”, consisting of two parts, chronologically covers the years 1988-2020, describing the prerequisites for the formation of the PMR, the repelling of military aggression from the Republic of Moldova, the initial stages of state-building, as well as the development of various spheres of life of the country during the thirty-year period of its independence. According to the Order of the PMR President, the PMR Foreign Minister Vitaly Ignatiev was the editor-in-chief of the scientific publication.
Opening the event, Anna Volkova briefly spoke about the content of the publication, which, according to her, “includes every aspect of the existence of the PMR, from a historical perspective”. “The monograph was the result of a considerable joint performance, historians, geographers, economists, lawyers, and cultural scientists worked on it – more than 30 people in total. Of course, readers will be the ones to tell whether we succeeded. But, in my opinion, it is crucial that those people who throughout the early years headed ministries and other structures, those who not only remember history, but also rely on well-defined sources, took part in writing a number of chapters”, the State Adviser noted.
In turn, the First President of the PMR Igor Smirnov stressed the importance of recording the history of the state, especially by those who created it, and thanked the team of authors for the work done.
Speaking about the monograph, Vitaly Ignatiev expressed the opinion that the task to prepare it was set very timely, because the republic has passed the most difficult stages of formation and development over the three decades, and “it was necessary to record all this in this edition scrupulously and in detail, without missing anything”.
“Not everything that we would like to outline and leave in history is in this book. And let it not be a complete chronicle, but it is a concentrated expression of the significant that will give any reader an answer to the question of what Pridnestrovie is, why and how it appeared, due to what and why it exists today, who we are, and where we are going tomorrow”, the diplomat summed up, stressing the importance of this work becoming the property of the broad masses of the population, primarily the younger generation.
In continuation of the event, the Head of the Foreign Ministry, on behalf of the President of the PMR, presented diplomas and letters of commendation to the distinguished participants involved in the preparation and publishing of the fourth volume of the monograph.
