The Foreign Ministry hosted a meeting of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden Anna Lyberg, who is completing her diplomatic mission.
The diplomats focused on the current state of affairs in the Moldova-Pridnestrovie settlement. The PMR's Foreign Minister noted the lack of dynamics at all levels of the negotiation process, and expressed hope that the Moldovan side, given the completed electoral processes and personnel reshuffles, will be ready for a serious and substantive work on all the issues that make up the current agenda of the dialogue.
In this context, Vitaly Ignatiev recalled that there is a whole range of problems in the relations between Pridnestrovie and Moldova at the moment, including those reflected in the "Berlin+" package of agreements which require an early solution. The diplomat paid special attention to aspects related to freedom of movement.
“There is a very alarming deadline associated with the possible restrictions on our vehicles to be introduced by Ukraine at Chisinau's request. We believe that this is an absolutely destructive step and we do hope that the voice of reason will prevail among our colleagues in this case. I would not like to resume the dialogue with the Moldovan side with negativity and new restrictive measures,” the Minister said.
Vitaly Ignatiev expressed the view that opportunities to achieve positive results during the Swedish OSCE Chairmanship are still available, and encouraged arranging the next meeting of the "Permanent Conference..." in the 5+2 format by the end of this year.
