The Pridnestrovian President, Vadim Krasnoselsky met with the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova Peter Michalko. The Head of Political Relations Department and Advisers on Political and Economic Issues accompanied the Ambassador. The Pridnestrovian Minister of Foreign Affairs attended the working discussion as well.
Welcoming each other, interlocutors noted that their last meeting dated 2019, at the pandemic onset. Over the past time, many questions and problems that require urgent solutions have accumulated. Vadim Krasnoselsky stressed that he does not accept writing off on COVID circumstances the stagnation within the negotiation process. According to him, the pandemic aggravated the situation but it was not the root cause of dialogue freezing. The active and effective phase of the negotiations (2017-2018) ended in the summer of 2019. The format of the "Permanent Meeting ..." has ceased corresponding to its name; Expert Groups do hardly work; political representatives do not interact whilst summit meetings take place less and less frequently. At the same time, Moldova initiates more and more threats: restrictions, crisis manifestations grow, while issues of economic orientation, social nature, humanitarian profile get more often politicized, Vadim Krasnoselsky stated citing specific examples. The head of the Pridnestrovian state stressed that unilateral actions that the Republic of Moldova takes, entail an escalation of the conflict. The President of the PMR considers this situation unacceptable.
In his turn, Peter Michalko, noted that the dialogue should continue under any circumstances. According to him, it is extremely important to build up a post-pandemic society’s life activity by means of joint efforts.
Interlocutors discussed a wide range of issues. Special attention was paid to banking issues and politically motivated criminal cases.
