Today, a meeting of political representatives from Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova, Vitaly Ignatiev and Cristina Lesnic, took place via video-link.
The participants in the meeting addressed a variety of pressing issues related to the current situation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova, stressing the need to implement the previously reached agreements of the Berlin Plus package.
In particular, the interlocutors elaborated on current problematic issues in telecommunications. In this context, the Pridnestrovian side noted that it expects the Republic of Moldova to fulfill its obligations, including making the necessary frequency resource available, as stipulated in the Protocol Decision on measures to arrange interaction in the field of telecommunications of November 25, 2017, as well as the Roadmap of June 28, 2018 on fulfilling provisions of the above agreement. In addition, Vitaly Ignatiev highlighted Chisinau’s counterproductive approaches connected with retreating from the previously agreed positions and attempts to lead the dialogue on this subject into a non-constructive channel.
Referring to the criminal cases, the head of the PMR’s Foreign Ministry stated the continued unwillingness of the Moldovan side to move forward within the framework of the previously concluded agreements. He reiterated the need for relevant lists to be exchanged between the parties, as well as for Chisinau to implement the paragraph 5 of the Protocol Decision on the use of farmlands in the Dubossary region of the PMR.
As a follow-up to the discussion, the interlocutors addressed problems faced by the Vehicle Registration Offices, impeding the full use of this mechanism in accordance with the Protocol Decision of April 24, 2018. The Pridnestrovian side again highlighted the problem of the “RT” form, as well as the failure to settle the driving licenses issue, resulting in the impossibility for all interested car owners of Pridnestrovie to participate in international road traffic. In addition, the need to ensure access to the VRO registration mechanism for the vehicles of the Pridnestrovian cargo and passenger companies was emphasized.
Special attention was paid to banking issues. Vitaly Ignatiev called on the Moldovan side to resolve the entire complex of problematic aspects in this area as soon as possible, including functioning of accounts of Pridnestrovian economic agents, conversion of the Moldovan lei surplus, and operation of international bank cards in Pridnestrovie. In this context, the Minister recalled that the Pridnestrovian side is waiting for Moldova’s response on the specific dates for the meeting of a relevant subgroup to enable thorough discussions of the above issues.
At the end of the meeting, the parties confirmed their principled readiness to arrange the next meeting of the “Permanent Conference ...” in the near future.
