Vitaly Ignatiev met with the UN delegation headed by the newly appointed Human Rights Adviser-UN Resident Coordinator in Moldova Simon Springett.
Welcoming the guests, Vitaly Ignatiev noted that the development of cooperation with the UN is one of the priorities of Pridnestrovie. According to the diplomat, the activities of UN agencies in the republic are concentrated in the social and humanitarian sphere and are practical. “We consider focusing attention on social and humanitarian issues a priority. In this context we welcome continued work on the implementation, with UN support, of the recommendations of the UN Senior Human Rights Expert Thomas Hammarberg,” Vitaly Ignatiev said.
Simon Springett thanked for the positive assessment of the activities of UN agencies and drew attention to the changes that have taken place in the management system of the country office. “I am the first Resident Coordinator who reports directly to the Secretary General and not being part of the team of any UN agency,” Simon Springett said.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the parameters of bilateral cooperation and prospects for the implementation of the UN Joint Human Rights Program in Pridnestrovie and also agreed to maintain an open dialogue on a regular basis.
