On the Meeting of Nina Shtanski with the Delegation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Today,foreign office of Pridnestrovie hosted the meeting of Deputy Chairperson of the Government of the PMR for International Cooperation, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nina Shtanski with Deputy Director of Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Danae Dholakia. Deputy Head of the British Embassy in the Republic of Moldova Amy Sherwood also attended the meeting.

In the course of the meeting the sides discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation in social and humanitarian spheres. In particular, participants of the meeting paid much attention to TB patients in the Republic. Danae Dholakia informed about the work of the British side with potential donors. Head of the Pridnestrovian diplomacy highly assessed such cooperation.

Presently, Pridnestrovie gives much attention to implementation of recommendations of UN Senior Expert on Human Rights in Pridnestrovie Thomas Hammarberg. Following the instruction of the President of the PMR a special interdepartmental working group responsible for working out the Plan for Implementing Recommendations of the human rights defender was formed. Improving detention conditions in penitentiary institutions and creating friendly environment for people with disabilities were selected as priority areas.

Responding to the questions of journalists, Nina Shtanski reported that currently Pridnestrovie pays much attention to the Report prepared by British experts in the field of TB control. “As you know, the spread of TB is a global problem. In our case it is aggravated by the fact that medicine for the treatment of this disease demands enormous funds. Together with the Ministry of Health we are working to attract international aid in this field. Our British colleagues have conducted expertise, and their reports will serve the basis for international donors to assist in coping with this problem,” the Minister explained.               

In the course of the meeting the forthcoming arrival in the Republic of the British football team “Tottenham” was also discussed. “I hope numerous British fans intending to visit Pridnestrovie will like it here,” Nina Shtanski concluded.

In her turn, Danae Dholakia marked that the last time she visited Pridnestrovie was two years ago, and during this time Pridnestrovie has seen positive changes.
