Today the Tiraspol Cinema hosted opening of the French Film Festival in of annual Francophonie Days in Pridnestrovie. The event was organized by the chair of Romanic Philology of the T.G. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University, supported by French Alliance in the Republic of Moldova. Ambassador of Franc in Moldova H.E. Gerard Guillonneau, Deputy Minister of Education of the PMR Vyatcheslav Dolgodvorov, officers of the MFA of the PMR, representatives of the French Alliance in Moldova, of the Center of French Culture of the Pridnestrovian State University, students of the chair of Romanic Philology of the T.G. Shevchenko Pridnestrovian State University.



French Film Festival is held for the fifth time in our Republic. Pridnestrovians had opportunity to watch the films of different genres: from animated films to action films. Organizers have chosen the works of well-known French directors – Dardenne brothers, Radu Mihaileanu, Michel Hazanavicius, Maiwenn Le Besco.



Head of the Center of French Culture Galina Ozemko informed the journalists that Pridnestrovie always took part in international days of French culture with great enthusiasm. “Such a festival is a good opportunity to get to know French culture better, to hear French speech from native speakers, to learn something new”, – noted representative of the Pridnestrovian State University. According to her, the programme of the event consists of three parts: workshop with French teachers for the schools of the Republic, film festival and Republican Festival of French Song. “Summarizing the results of the Festival of French Song the winner will be decided and traditionally awarded with trip to France”, – Galina Ozemko said.



As Gerard Guillonneau said, films to be demonstrated in Pridnestrovie have been carefully selected. Organizers of the festival rest upon topical movies which received success in France. “I think that popularization of culture of any country is an important task. We can see that French films are of great importance for Pridnestrovian viewers, especially for youth”, – Ambassador noted.



Background Information: Francophonie is an international community of people, speaking French language. Since 1970 International Organization ‘Francophonie' (L'Organisation internationale de la francophonie) exists. It is developing cooperation between French-speaking countries around the world. It should be noted that not the overall level of knowledge of French language in the country, but the level of cultural ties with the French Republic is considered to be the major criteria to obtain membership in the organization. The Francophonie Organization contains 56 members and 14 observers.
