Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Gubarev Visits Pridnestrovian MFA

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PMR hosted the meeting of Head of the foreign political office Nina Shtanski with Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Gubarev. Participating in the meeting were also Deputy Foreign Minister of the PMR Vitaly Ignatiev and Counselor-Envoy of the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova Vitaly Tryapitsyn.

Visit by the Russian delegation was carried out as part of today's research and practice conference dedicated to the 15th anniversary of signing of 1997 Moscow Memorandum which took place at the Pridnestrovian State University named after T.G. Shevchenko. Sergey Gubarev referred to 1997 Moscow Memorandum as a fundamental document of the negotiation process between Moldova and Pridnestrovie. “Ideas laid down in Moscow Memorandum are topical even today. Discussion of this document is an additional contribution into the negotiation process at the present stage”, the Ambassador told.

Nina Shtanski reminded that Moscow Memorandum significantly stepped up negotiation process at sufficiently difficult stage of Moldova-Pridnestrovie relations. The Minister expressed confidence that this document will not lose its topicality even many years later. “First, it is part of the Pridnestrovian history. Second, this document demonstrated Pridnestrovie's ability to negotiate as a subject to negotiation process. Third, it was exactly this document to have fixed first time in history of the negotiation process the juridical personality of Pridnestrovie which was internationalized”, Nina Shtanski concluded. According to the Minister, the fact that we return today to discussions of this document, though in unofficial format, additionally gives us possibility to learn lessons and take into account previous experience.

During the conversation, the Minister noted that attention devoted by Russian MFA to the problems of compatriots living in the republic is of high importance to Pridnestrovie. Nina Shtanski thanked Russian side for a constructive approach demonstrated at rounds of official negotiations. 

The sides discussed also a number of practical issues relating to the preparation of a regular round of official negotiations in the 5+2 format, as well as agenda of the Permanent Conference.

Later in the day, Ambassador met with the Head of Republic. In the course of the meeting topical matters of Russian-Pridnestrovian collaboration were discussed, as well as issues connected with normalization of Moldova-Pridnestrovie relations.
