On March 12, Foreign Minister of the PMR Vladimir Yastrebchak and his Deputy Sergey Simonenko met with representatives of the foreign policy department of the Republic of Lithuania. The foreign delegation consisted of the Political Director of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Eitvidas Bajarunas, coordinator for preparations for Lithuania to assume its Chairmanship in the OSCE, Ambassador Ritus Paulauskas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania in the RM Violeta Matulaite, and First Secretary of Lithuanian Embassy in the RM Kestutis Vaskelevicius. The meeting was also attended by Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Philip Remler.
The aim of the meeting was to study the general situation in the negotiation process between Moldova and Transdniestria in the light of the upcoming Chairmanship of Lithuania in the OSCE in 2011. According to Eitvidas Bajarunas, Lithuanian Chairmanship is going to foster conditions for free communication, contacts between the people, resumption of the railway communication, telephone service and other pressing issues.
Minister for Foreign Affairs Vladimir Yastrebchak suggested that the dialogue should be focused on economy, infrastructure and transport. He expressed his hope for unconventional decisions to be made which, however, must not be imposed from outside as well as must be of benefit for every side.
Summing up the conversation, the Lithuanian diplomats thanked the MFA's leadership for the meeting and extensive answers to the questions they were interested in.
