Pridnestrovien Observers Participate in Presidential Election Monitoring in Abkhazia

Today the Republic of Abkhazia is holding early election of Head of state. There are three aspirants to the presidency: Vice-President Alexander Ankvab, Prime Minister Sergey Shamba and leader of oppositional party “National Unity Forum” Raul  Khadzhimba.

172 polling stations were created in 35 constituencies. According to the data, provided by Central Electoral Commission of Abkhazia, 143 735 people are registered in check-list. 130 international observers from 15 countries of the world, including the delegation from the Pridnestrovien Moldavian Republic, headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Yastrebchak, will monitor the elections in Abkhazia.

 As reported by the Head of Pridnestrovien foreign office from Sukhum, today the observers began to fulfill their functions. Pridnestrovie considers these elections to be the evidence of free choice of Abkhazian nation. All the candidates for President reasonably led the election campaign in the atmosphere of mutual respect. Interests of the state, social consensus and stability are their priorities.

Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Abkhazia is planning to announce preliminary results of the voting on August 27. The official resolution of international observers, participating in electoral monitoring, will be published in coming days.

The meetings of participants of Pridnestrovien delegation with the representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia and other government bodies of the republic are planned for today.
